The Federal Government has order the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to clear backlogs of over 200 thousand International Passport application within 2 weeks.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser (SA) to the Honourable Minister, Alao Babatunde, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo gave the orders during the meeting with top government officials including the acting Comptroller General (aCG) of Immigration and others in charge of passport booklets in Abuja.
The Honourable Minister noted that the comes in furtherance to his promise to remove bottlenecks in the application of passports and other immigration documents.
The Minister further added that delays in the processing and enrolments of passports in Nigeria have been a source of frustration for citizens causing significant delays in obtaining crucial travelling documents.
During the meeting, the acting Comptroller General (aCG) of Immigration, Adepoju Carol assured the Minister that all necessary resources and measures will be deployed to ensure that processing of the pending applications are expected.
She also noted that, although the number of enrolments as of Thursday morning spills into 200 thousand across the country, the agency has has been able to to ensure expedite processing of the pending passport applications.
